Care of Damask

Just a few hints on taking care of your Damask Bed Linen & Table Linen

Damask is 100% cotton – so you will get some shrinkage from the fabric, which is why I cut everything slightly larger. It will come back to correct size after a couple of washes. The fabric will also soften once the ‘dressing or starch’ is washed out.

“I definitely think Damask is like a good bottle of red wine….it does get better with age”

I have found that ‘nappy soak’ is better than bleach for removing any stains. Bleach can tend to ‘yellow’ the damask fabric. Simply soak in the nappy soak in warm water, then wash as usual.

Damask is a very durable fabric, so normal machine washing is fine. I would recommend only cold to warm water though.
Repeated hot washing and hot drying may tend to ‘over shrink’ the cotton damask fabric and will deteriorate the fibres much quicker. Excessive sunlight may also tend to ‘yellow’ the damask fabric.
